Navigating Storms and Roadblocks: A Day on the Polish Coast

Today was a slow-paced day on the road, with only a few kilometers covered. Roadworks, traffic lights, and stretches of one-way traffic made detours impossible and progress sluggish.

Over lunch, we received an alert from the Polish weather service warning of severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours expected in the afternoon, urging us to find a safe place to stay. We managed to outrun the worst of the storm but still faced some rough weather by evening.

Arriving at the Polish coast near Ustka, we set out to find a campsite—only to discover that the five in the area were all still closed for the season. By then, it was 6:00 PM, and the sky had opened up with torrential rain and thunder. Camping wasn’t an option anymore.

Forced to switch plans, we looked for a hotel and luckily found plenty of options. After a much-needed hot shower, we headed to the restaurant for a Turkish buffet and a cold beer. By late evening, the weather had cleared, allowing us to take a peaceful walk along the beach with stunning views of the Baltic Sea.

Tomorrow morning, we’ll set off early, expecting more roadworks and delays. This time, we’ve already scoped out an open campsite—no more unexpected luxuries like a hotel for us!
