Riding North Beyond the Arctic Circle: A Midsummer Adventure to Tromsø

Picture this: cruising north on my motorcycle, crossing the Arctic Circle on a midsummer night when the sun never sets. The light lingers endlessly, and I sleep with a mask to block out the midnight sun. Along the way, I’m greeted by swarms of mosquitoes in the peaceful Finnish Lakeland, a true wilderness experience.

This is part of my epic five-week motorcycle journey, starting in the Netherlands and weaving through Germany, Poland, and the Baltic States before entering Finland. From Helsinki, I’ll cross into Northern Finland, pass Santa Claus’ Arctic Circle home, and follow the Swedish-Finnish border toward Tromsø on Norway’s breathtaking coast.

The adventure doesn’t stop there. My route will wind south along the iconic fjords of Norway, skirting the rugged coastline before heading into Sweden and finally Denmark.

So, hop on the back seat—you’re invited to join me for the ride. Let’s explore the North together!

You can download the gpx track file below.

The gpx file contains the whole route divided into 20 tracks. (thus not routes)
The track through Germany is a highway to Potsdam near Berlin, the other tracks are all B-roads and can contain offroad sections (read gravel roads).

For me, it was a rough guidance as I did plan my detailed route day by day.
