Crossing the Øresund and Exploring Danish Shores

From Rainy Rides to Sunny Beaches

Today’s plan took us from Malmö, Sweden, to Denmark, crossing the iconic Øresund Bridge (Øresundsbron). This stunning engineering marvel, stretching 8 kilometers across the strait, connects the two countries in a seamless blend of bridge and tunnel. It’s the first of two bridges on our route today, with another leading to mainland Denmark.

A Rainy Start

The day began with wet weather. Donning our rain gear, we packed up the tents, still damp from the previous day’s rain. The skies remained gray as we set out, making filming and photography less than ideal.

By midday, however, the weather began to turn. The clouds parted, and the sun made its long-awaited appearance, lifting our spirits as we rode on.

Setting Up Camp in Slagelse

By late afternoon, we arrived at Bildsø Camping in Slagelse Municipality. Our first task was to set up the tents to let them dry in the warm breeze. With the weather now reaching a comfortable 23°C, we took a short walk through a forest path that led directly to the beach—a mere five-minute stroll.

The beach offered a fantastic view of the Great Belt Bridge (Storebæltsbroen), our route for tomorrow as we head toward mainland Denmark.

A Geocaching Adventure

The forest around the campsite held another small treasure: two geocaches. We decided to hunt for one and found it cleverly hidden beneath the ground in a stone pipe, covered with a fitting rock.

Michel, ever the geocaching enthusiast, was thrilled to add Denmark to his growing list of countries where he has logged a cache. As a reward, he earned a new digital badge to commemorate the find.

Looking Ahead

Tomorrow, we’ll cross the Great Belt Bridge and continue southward toward the German border. With sunnier weather forecasted, we’re looking forward to a smoother and drier ride.

Cultural Highlights:

  • Øresund Bridge: A dual bridge-and-tunnel masterpiece connecting Sweden and Denmark, offering breathtaking views over the Øresund Strait.
  • Great Belt Bridge: Spanning 18 kilometers, this suspension bridge links Zealand to mainland Denmark and is one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Mileage Milestone: One more country crossed and the journey southward continues!
