From Home to Potsdam: The Journey Begins
It’s early morning, the end of May, and a light rain is falling. My motorcycle, packed and ready the night before, waits patiently. Today marks the beginning of a five-week adventure through Scandinavia.
I won’t be alone on this trip. My riding buddy and good friend will meet me at the German border, and together we’ll set off on the first leg of our journey. The plan: ride the German Autobahn for a full day, heading to Potsdam, near Berlin, where we’ll camp for the night.
But as often happens on the road, things didn’t go quite as planned. Just after passing Hannover, news came in—an accident had blocked the highway 100 km before Potsdam. As we rode, the delay kept growing, so we made a quick decision to veer north, away from the traffic.
By afternoon, we stumbled upon a hidden gem: the Laascher See campsite in Gartow. A peaceful spot to rest after an unexpected detour, and a perfect way to start this epic journey.
Camp Set Up and Coffee Brewing
The tent is up again, and I’ve brewed a fresh cup of coffee on my new gasoline stove. Later tonight, before turning in, I’ll enjoy a small glass of whiskey. Tomorrow, the adventure continues as I head toward Poland—leaving the highways behind and embracing the open road.
