Riding Toward Poland: A Night of Rain, Thunder, and Roads Less Traveled
Last night, the sky opened up with a few brief showers, and my new sleeping bag proved a bit too warm—so I unzipped it, letting in the cool night air. Though the temperature outside barely dropped, I slept wonderfully.
This morning began with packing up camp and loading my motorcycle for the next leg of the journey. After a hearty breakfast lovingly prepared by the campground host, I hit the road toward the Polish border.
Being Sunday, almost everything was closed except for the occasional hotel or restaurant. I managed to find a small terrace café for a light lunch, with the temperature holding steady at a warm 26°C throughout the ride.
Today’s route took me completely off the highways, winding through stunning nature reserves and scenic backroads. By late afternoon, I reached a peaceful campsite by a lake in Krugdorf, still on the German side but just shy of the Polish border. Thunderstorms had been forecast, with a weather alert even pinging on my phone, but the storm veered just past us—only a few light raindrops brushed the campsite.
As the winds picked up and the sky darkened, the campground owner offered up a plate of classic German Bratwurst and fries—a perfect end to a long day.
Back at my tent, I brewed a warm cup of coffee and settled in with a book as the evening unfolded. Tomorrow, I’ll be crossing into Poland, heading toward the historic city of Gdańsk. The adventure continues!
