The Final Stop: Lattrop-Breklenkamp, Netherlands
A Quick Pit Stop in Germany
Before crossing the border into the Netherlands, we made one final stop in Germany at a McDonald’s for a quick coffee. To our pleasant surprise, the coffee was served in a proper cup, a rare touch for a fast-food chain. By then, the temperature had already climbed to a sweltering 30°C, making us all the more eager to reach our next destination: a campsite just over the border in the Netherlands.
Arrival at De Rammelbeek
Our last campsite, De Rammelbeek in Lattrop-Breklenkamp, welcomed us with a sense of serenity. This quiet and well-maintained spot was exactly what we needed to conclude our journey. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the sight of a swimming lake right in front of the tents. With the heat pressing down on us after a long day on the road, the first thing we did was shed our motorcycle gear and dive straight into the cool water. It was a simple yet refreshing pleasure that made the heat almost bearable.
The Challenges of the Road
The last stretch through Germany was not without its frustrations. The 30°C heat was exacerbated by an endless series of red lights—20 stoplights in the final 10 kilometers, to be exact. We found ourselves in what felt like a “red zone” rather than a “green zone,” with each stop causing the temperature inside our riding gear to rise uncomfortably. By the time we reached De Rammelbeek, we were more than ready for a well-earned rest.
Settling In
Our campsite spot offered limited relief from the heat, with a modest two meters of partial shade. Despite the less-than-ideal conditions, we quickly set up our tents and headed for the showers to rinse off the day’s sweat and dust. Afterward, we found ourselves on the terrace of the campsite’s restaurant, sipping cold drinks and moving as little as possible in the oppressive heat.
A Memorable Evening
Dinner that evening was our final meal together on the road. The restaurant on-site provided a fittingly relaxed atmosphere for reflecting on the journey. We even had the chance to share our travel experiences with an older couple, swapping stories about adventures and destinations. It was a heartwarming way to close this chapter of our trip.
As the sun dipped below the tree line, the temperature finally became more bearable. Sitting outside, we savored the quiet of the countryside, the kind that’s only interrupted by the occasional rustle of leaves or distant hum of nature.
Preparing for the Journey Home
Tomorrow marks the end of our adventure. We’ll enjoy one last breakfast in front of our tents before packing up and heading home. These past weeks have been nothing short of incredible, filled with scenic routes, cultural discoveries, and unforgettable moments. While the journey is ending, the memories will stay with us for a lifetime.
