From Coastal Roads to Irish Pubs: A Day in Pärnu, Estonia
This morning, we were up bright and early at 7:30 AM, quickly breaking down the tent and making a simple breakfast, just a roll and a cup of coffee. By 9:00 AM, we were back on the road, heading towards Pärnu in Estonia. We followed the coastal road, though we didn’t see much of the sea, aside from a dramatic thunderstorm at the end of the route. The rain poured down in sheets and we had to stop at a bus station beside the road to shelter but thankfully didn’t last long.
We found a campsite in the heart of Pärnu through an online search, it had an impressive rating of 9! It turned out to be a small backyard setup at a private house, complete with a shower and a tiny kitchen. The place was simple and geared towards cyclists, but it was cozy enough, albeit quite spartan.
By late afternoon, we took a stroll into town, picked up a few groceries, and ended up at an Irish pub for a pint of Guinness. The pub had meals on the menu for just 8 euros, cheaper than cooking for ourselves, so we stayed for dinner, enjoying another Guinness while outside another storm front passed, bringing heavy rain.
After the downpour, we made our way back to the campsite and stumbled upon an open-air ice hockey rink, an unexpected sight! Now, we’re planning our route to Tallinn and have just booked a hotel near the ferry terminal. This will give us an early start on Sunday for the crossing to Helsinki.
